Jennie Wayne & The Wooden Dolls were the first rock group of note to come out of New Jersy, itself a hotbed of electro / garage / rock activity during the early 1970s.
They started when singer Jennie Wayne and drummer Lisa McDermont, then member of a local band called The Lesbians, met up with guitarist Sean Ryan and bassist Dino Cipriani, who had been playing in a rival band called The Fuck until its demise. Wayne wanted to form a group, and she, McDermont and Ryan became the core of the The Wooden Dolls, who were signed to the local New World Order label in 1976. They stayed together long enough to record three singles during 1976, of which one, "White" are an unabashed classics of electro-based garage-punk.
In 1975 Jennie Wayne and The Wooden Dolls played 3 shows at The Joint in Newark, NJ.
Two years later, in 1977, Wayne started Plastic Plastic together with Tom Ginsberg.
