Laura Carter (1949 - 1980)

Through films, albums, and the stage, Laura Carter developed quite a reputation for herself. Born in 1949, in Madison, WI, Carter grew up as the youngest of five children. Her father was a lawyer, while her mother was an abstract artist — this is probably where her sense of humor for the ironic developed.
At age eleven, the family moved to East Orange, outside Newark, NJ. Carter didn't stay there long; after graduation, she made her way to Los Angeles and to the early electro club circuit. As she developed her talent, her irreverent humor became a hit among the club-goers. She made a jump into films with the critically acclaimed Life is Sweet (based on the play Ein Wunderbare Spektakel by Wolfgang Schenck).
Her musical recordings have not, however, fared as well: Rouge and No Excuse! have, for the most part, gone unnoticed.
Laura Carter commited suicide by jumping from the roof, of the asylum where she was treated for severe drugrelated mental problems.
